Holiday no-mance: Over two-thirds of Brits spend their holidays falling out with their partner rather than finding holiday romance

April 19, 2019

69% of Brits have disagreements about what to do whilst on holiday with their partner

50% think having to agree on what to do each day is the most difficult thing about going away with a partner

Another 38% think just being with that person 24/7 is the hardest

London, 19 April 2018 — More than two-thirds (69 per cent) of Brits have admitted spending their holidays falling out with a partner over what to do while away. The survey by flight booking site Kiwi.com also found another (lucky!) 38 per cent said they believe that “just being with that person 24/7” is the hardest thing about holidaying together.

Travel disagreements appear to begin way back at home, with 67 per cent confessing that just choosing the destination for a break is a battle in itself, whilst, once on holiday, half of Brits (50 per cent) believe that agreeing on the daily holiday activity is the most challenging thing about holidaying with a loved one.

Sunbathing by the pool (44 per cent), sightseeing trips (25 per cent) and beach water sports (19 per cent) were voted the most popular things to disagree on whilst on holiday. Spending the day in bed with a partner ranked at a measly 1 per cent of favorite things to do.

But all is not lost, as just over half (53 per cent) of Brits state that the holiday romance they do feel when on holiday lasts up to two weeks from when they have returned home, whilst a grudge from the arguments only last up to two days (40 per cent).

Alison Couper of Kiwi.com said: “It’s stunning to think that couples go away in search of holiday romance and end up with a holiday bust-up. Even with the best intentions, partners often have little disagreements on what to do or where to go. The best way to keep everyone happy is to choose a destination that offers something for both of you, and make each other feel equally special and looked after. With holidays becoming more affordable than ever before, the perfect trip really is out there for everyone.”
