Technology update | Kiwi.com releases MCP Server prototype to address future demand of consumers using AI Agents to access real-time flight information

August 07, 2025

Prague, Czech Republic — In a first for the online travel industry, Kiwi.com, in collaboration with technology partner AIpic, has released a Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server to address the future demand of consumers choosing AI Agents to search for flights.

Mario Gavira, Vice President of Growth at Kiwi.com, shares, “Just like websites and apps let end consumers interact with online products and services, MCP is becoming the go-to interface for AI agents to discover and use services such as searching and booking travel. At Kiwi.com, we recognise both the potential and a way to future-proof our business for this agentic AI disruption by implementing an MCP Server that allows AI agents searching for flights to find the best options in an agentic-friendly, frictionless and secure way.”

With all the major AI providers, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google and others recently announcing their support of MCP, the release of Kiwi.com’s MCP Server enables the company to be in a position to capture the demand generated by these agentic AI platforms.

Pierre-Louis Theron, Co-founder and CEO of Alpic, says, “We’re thrilled to partner with Kiwi.com on deploying and hosting their MCP server. As travelers turn to AI for everything from weekend getaways to once-in-a-lifetime journeys, services like Kiwi’s need to be agent-ready. Kiwi.com is a pioneer in this shift, giving us a glimpse of what it means to build for where travelers are headed. We’re proud to provide the infrastructure to support them.”

This initial version allows users of MCP-enabled AI chatbots (such as ChatGPT Pro & Business plans, Claude, and Cursor) to search Kiwi.com flights using natural language. Through a simple chat interaction, users receive a curated list of the best flights for their trip based on:

  • Round-trip or one-way flight
  • Origin/destination (city or airport)
  • Travel dates
  • Flexibility up to +/- 3 days
  • Number and types of passengers (adult, child, infant)
  • Cabin class (economy, premium economy, business, first class)

Search results are displayed in the users’ local timezone and currency, organized in easy-to-compare tables, and include a fun fact about the destination.

A booking link is generated instantly, making it easy to go from planning to purchase in seconds.

NOTES FOR EDITORS

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open protocol developed by Anthropic that standardizes how Large Language Models (LLMs) interact with external services, tools and data.  MCP has been likened to the “USB-C for AI” in that it provides a standardized way for LLMs to communicate with different types of tools, data sources and contexts. MCP helps extend AI past its training data, enabling it not only to provide information, but also to interact with services in real time and truly act on users’ behalf.
