15 September 2022 – Kiwi.com bookings from Europe for summer 2022 saw a 140% increase compared to summer 2021, overtaking summer 2019 figures by 92.5%. Italy, Spain and Greece traditionally remain the top summer destinations, although the United Kingdom jumped from seventh place last year to third place this year. London was the top city booked, followed by Milan, Barcelona, Rome and Paris. British citizens were traveling more than other nationalities this summer, followed by Italians and French, boosting the routes London-Milan, London-Dublin and London-Lisbon into the top three this summer.

Kiwi.com data shows that over half of the bookings (56%) for travels during summer 2022 were made in June and July.  The week of 30 May was when the most bookings for summer departures were made.

The booking window this year increased by nine days.  On average, travelers booked their summer trips 30 days in advance.  Last year the average booking window for summer travels was 21 days and in 2019 – 41 days.

Most summer traffic from Europe was during the last week of June and the first two weeks of July.  Twenty-eight percent of travellers that booked return tickets on Kiwi.com stayed one to two weeks at their destinations, 29% – four to six days and 32% – three days or less.

The average ticket price from Europe to anywhere this summer was €175 – 42% more expensive than in 2021 and 11% cheaper than in 2019.  Short-haul flights (0-1499km) were on average at €116 – 29% more expensive than last year but 15% cheaper than in 2019.  Medium-haul flights (1500-3999km) were on average at €197 – 36% more expensive than last summer and at the same price as in 2019.  On the other hand, long-haul flights (4000km+), saw a 42% increase in prices compared to last year and a 17% increase compared to 2019, costing on average €699.
