Female ‘solo travel’ bookings are on the rise reveals data from Kiwi.com

  • Spain holds the highest number of individual flight bookings by females for 2023, followed by the UK,  then Italy, France and Germany
  • Kiwi.com data collected for International Women’s Day shows that 2023 has already seen more than half as many individual flight bookings by female travelers from Spain as the whole of pre-covid 2019

8 March 2023 – In recognition of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Kiwi.com has analyzed women’s travel behaviors focused on the Spanish market. According to Kiwi.com’s booking data, bookings made by solo female travelers for 2023 are already at 54.3% of 2019’s whole-year booking volumes. Compared to neighboring countries – Italy, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom – Spain holds the highest number of individual flight bookings made by females to travel in 2023.  After Spain, the UK was a close second followed by Italy and then France and Germany some way behind.

Kiwi.com’s Director of Customer Experience, Eliška Řezníček Dočkalová, commented, “2023 is showing an increased desire to travel in general, and at Kiwi.com we are also seeing a rise in individual bookings by females this year, which is great to see as we compare the norms of pre-covid 2019 with this year.”

Distances and destinations

For 2023, 46.7% of individual bookings made by Spanish females on Kiwi.com are for short-haul trips (0 – 1499 km), 44.8% for medium-haul trips (1500 – 3999 km), and 8.5% for long-haul trips (over 4000 km).

The ten most popular cities booked by Spanish female ‘solo travelers’ for 2023 on Kiwi.com so far are London, Warsaw, Barcelona, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Milan, Lisbon, Madrid and Krakow.  On country-level flights within Spain are on top, followed by trips to Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France, Portugal, Austria, Romania and Ireland in the top ten. However, destinations further afield are not missing from the top booked countries by solo female travelers either, and countries such as the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Japan, Peru also feature.
