26 May 2022 – The platinum anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne culminates in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, where many will celebrate the historic milestone not only at home but also by travelling. Kiwi.com, a travel-tech company,  discovered that British travellers actively use the opportunity of the long early summer weekend to travel around Europe while celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee a little further from home.  

A special extended bank holiday weekend motivated Brits to look for long weekend getaways around Europe, searching for more than 12.7 million trip options on Kiwi.com for the extended weekend of 2-5 June from the United Kingdom. 

The most popular destinations booked so far are to countries such as Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Ireland. Top routes booked from the UK for the anniversary weekend are London to Barcelona, London to Málaga, and London to Lisbon. Those escaping the Capital have spent on average £138 per ticket on travel for the long weekend, Kiwi.com’s data reveals.

Kiwi.com’s research also shows that Brits were preparing for the anniversary weekend in advance. The majority of bookings (54%) for the jubilee long weekend were made from three weeks to two months in advance. The majority of British bookings were for solo travel (58.6%) and one-third plan to travel in pairs or in a couple.
