Short and medium-haul flights dominate Kiwi.com bookings

Market Recovery Update: 3 August – 16 August 2020

The latest Market Recovery Update from Kiwi.com includes the top 5 destinations for the Czech Republic, Spain, and Slovakia, together with the top 5 European routes taken between 20 July and 2 August 2020. The update also includes a comparison between long and short-haul flight bookings and trends for virtually interlined flights versus direct.

  • With a number of European destinations implementing new restrictions or quarantine for nationals returning, we have seen a three percent decline in bookings for the period of 3 August to 16 August 2020 compared to the previous two weeks. Travelers are delaying making a decision on booking to nearer the time of departure, as they monitor the situation, with the average booking window (time between booking and departing) dropping to 16 days, from 23 days for the same period one month ago.  Although Greece recently tightened controls on whom they allow to enter the country, it is still showing as a top destination over the past two weeks with Vienna-Athens, and London-Athens being the top two most popular European routes for Kiwi.com customers.
