Kiwi.com: five billion searches to travel to anywhere this summer

  • Travelers are looking for flexible post-Covid adventures

24 June 2022 – The first summer where Covid-19-related restrictions are lifted is recording an enormous boost in bookings, Kiwi.com data shows. The volumes have tripled compared to last year. Travelers are heading to explore, relax, and escape from the countries they’ve been locked in, and destinations such as Italy, Spain, Thailand, Malaysia, and Colombia are amongst the favorites this summer.

In the midst of the current travel rush, a new tendency has appeared: Five billion searches – almost two times (1.9) more than last summer – were made for travels to “Anywhere” this summer on Kiwi.com, indicating a need for a no-matter-where adventure.  Freedom to choose where to go and flexibility in terms of budget, times, and ways of traveling, is marked as the absolute travel trend for this summer.

“Many travelers are more flexible and creative with their trips after Covid-19. A lot of them have the chance to work from anywhere which allows them to keep their job stability while exploring a new destination.  Some want to make the most out of their budget and see the world for the best prices possible while others want to travel as far as possible and visit as many countries as possible to make up for the lost time”, says Eliška Řezníček Dočkalová, Director of Customer Experience at Kiwi.com.

Kiwi.com summed up the ways anyone can hack the system and find the cheapest and lesser known ways to travel this summer by using unique search options and creating a trip they didn’t think possible.

Search

A nicely built search tool saves a lot of time for travelers.  On Kiwi.com, travelers can either search for specific destinations and times they want to visit or hit “Anywhere” in both cases and see appears. In filters under the search bar, one can set the price range, the days of the week they want to travel, the mode of transport they want to include, choose whether to include direct or connecting trips, type of luggage to travel with, and even what activities to do.

With every filter applied, a shortlist of the destinations fitting those selection choices appears.  Once that choice is made, there is another set of filters, in case someone wants to filter down further.  In those, countries can be excluded that they prefer not to fly through, which is useful so as not to spend extra bucks on transit visas, or if there are multiple airlines flying to the destination, choose or remove carriers.

Deals

For those that cannot decide where to go, it is worth checking the Deals page on Kiwi.com.  It is a special tool for finding great value discounted flight prices, drawn from the home airport and based on a calculation of km/price.  When the algorithm finds the cheapest routes, they appear on the Deals section, which means new deals might be available at any time, giving travelers constant access to incredibly cheap tickets.

Nomad

If a hop around multiple countries is the plan for this summer, this is the only tool that is needed.  Nomad is a unique search option on which all the travelers have to do is put in all the destinations they want to visit and add how long they want to stay in each.  The algorithm will shuffle all the possible connections and will offer the cheapest combination to book.
