Kiwi.com business update: operational restructure

January 30, 2024

Prague, Czech RepublicThe sector in which Kiwi.com operates has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. Kiwi.com, a leading travel-tech company, started taking steps some time ago with its own transformation, investing in a direct-to-consumer brand and giving strategic focus to the customer experience. The company is now taking the next step by making operational changes to support the business in the long term. The restructuring will affect around 18% of employees.

“This is one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in my life as it affects respected team members who have been part of the Kiwi.com journey. The structure we have been operating with for many years, that includes capable and talented people, was put in place to support the transactional model that was right for us, the market and our customers at the time. The market we operate in is now very different and our business has changed and continues to change which has meant taking necessary steps that will help us maintain a healthy and prosperous company in the long term,” says Oliver Dlouhý, CEO. “Of course our key priority at this time is to support our team members affected by the changes and we’re dedicated to ensuring that our severance packages are not only fair but generous and providing resources to assist with the transition,” he adds.

This is not a hasty decision. Approximately 12 months ago a shift in strategy to a customer-centric approach was announced and, at the same time, a commitment to establishing relationships with airlines for the benefit of customers and long-term business objectives. The restructuring is part of other steps being taken that include managing costs as well as introducing new initiatives that support long term business growth.
